Bi Deltoid Shoulder Measurement
A bi-deltoid shoulder measurement, also known as shoulder width measurement, determines the maximum horizontal width of an individual’s shoulders. This assessment is required for helicopter passengers travelling to and from offshore installations to determine their eligibility for seating near emergency exit windows. Our expert team ensures compliance with industry standards, delivering accurate and efficient measurements tailored to regulatory requirements.
Further Information
This assessment is mandatory for all helicopter passengers travelling to the UK sector of offshore installations. The measurement determines whether passengers can safely be seated next to push-out emergency exit windows.
- The shoulder width measurement is taken using industry-approved calipers
- Conducted by a trained and approved measurer to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Passengers are classified based on their shoulder width:
- Regular: Shoulder width of 55.9 cm (22”) or less
- Extra Broad (XBR): Shoulder width of more than 55.9 cm (22”)
The measurement process typically takes approximately 20 minutes.
The measurement is conducted only by an approved measurer to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
After the measurement, passengers receive a certificate that includes their shoulder measurement and classification.
XBR-classified passengers may be required to undergo more frequent measurements to ensure continued compliance with seating regulations.
