Asbestos Medical
Asbestos occupational health medicals are mandatory examinations for workers exposed to asbestos. The first medical assessment must occur within two years of starting work with asbestos. Subsequent medicals depend on the type of work:
- Licensed Asbestos Work: Medical examinations are required every two years
- Non-Licensed Asbestos Work: Medical examinations must be conducted every three years
The examination aims to:
- Identify potential respiratory issues
- Detect early signs of asbestos-related diseases
- Advise workers on their fitness to continue working with asbestos
- Warn about the increased risk of lung cancer from smoking combined with asbestos exposure
Our experienced team ensures compliance with industry regulations, delivering accurate and efficient assessments.
Further Information
This medical is legally required for workers exposed to asbestos above the control limit. This includes:
- Construction workers
- Demolition workers
- Shipbuilders
- Anyone working with asbestos-containing materials
A qualified technician or nurse will begin the process by conducting height, weight, blood pressure, and lung function tests.
A physician will then perform a medical examination, listening to the patient’s chest to detect any respiratory abnormalities. The physician will interpret the results and provide a detailed report on their findings.
We prioritise accuracy and efficiency, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience for all employees.
The medical examination typically takes approximately 30 minutes.
A qualified occupational health technician or a registered occupational health nurse will conduct the medical examination. A HSE-approved occupational health physician will review and interpret the results.
The HSE certificate provided after the examination is valid for two years. After the assessment, the physician will provide two copies of the certificate—one for the employer and one for the employee, depending on whether the booking is corporate or private. Pathways Occupational Health will retain a copy on file to verify authenticity for future job applications.
